In reply to your despatch No.71 of the 8th ultimo

regarding the registration under the Hongkong Com-

panies Ordinances of certain Companies whose business

is in China, I am directed by the Officer Adininister-

ing the Government to transmit for your information a

copy of an opinion by Mr. Goodman, the Attorney-Gen-

eral, and to inform you that His Excellency will refer

the correspondence to the Secretary of State for the

Colonies, with a recommendation that no amendment of

the local law in the direction suggested in the last

paragraph of your despatch is necessary.
